Great debut novel.

I don't want to give any spoilers away. It's that sort of book you want first time readers to experience the unfolding atmosphere as the author intended. A synopsis would spoil it.

Me, I could feel a bit of Iain Banks, Keenan's British psychick Industry Of Light & Magic, Gormenghast, the dread of Drachenfels, Kingsnorth's Beast, Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits even. Not the time travelling dwarfs bit (which admittedly is 99% of the movie) but the very mundane, very f*cking weird, very (UN)real suburban family unit; the concentrated-pure-evil-in-the-microwave bit. The amazing David Daker: "What the HELL is going on up here?" Yeah. That.

Anyway, you'll know what I mean when you read it. AND YOU WILL READ IT.

Just don't come in moaning there's no dwarfs in it.
